5:22pm: First Ever SUICIDAL TENDENCIES DVD To Be Released This January
First Ever SUICIDAL TENDENCIES DVD To Be Released This January

Since their beginnings in Venice, CA in the early ‘80s, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have led the charge in the skate punk/thrash metal movement, consequently influencing an entire generation of bands along the way.

Fontana Distribution is proud to announce Live At The Olympic Auditorium, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES’ first ever DVD release! The DVD will street January 26, 2010 via the band’s own imprint, Suicidal Records. The approximately 80-minute DVD features 16 tracks including ST classics “Institutionalized,” “War Inside My Head,” and “Possessed To Skate” and captures SUICIDAL in their most natural environment: Onstage, uncensored and ready to tear you to shreds.

Elaborated ST founding vocalist Mike Muir: "The band started getting emails from some crazy guy that always said, 'I know you'll probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not. I'm wanna book ST for a show and I got this idea...'. Well, one by one we shot down the 'unique' ideas until one time he emailed and said the Olympic Auditorium was being bought by a Korean Church. Shouldn't it be sent off with a special last gig? The band agreed and then the work began. The promoter -- Evel Dick Donato who went on to win Big Brother -- tells a bit about the show, making of etc. on the intro. Lots of drama, none more than the day before the show when I woke up and couldn't walk. But the show must go on and the back surgery would have to wait till afterwards. SUICIDAL recorded live at the Olympic Auditorium in front of 4,000 Cycos...but now you can enjoy it in the safety of your living room."

Tracklisting
01. “Intro” 02. “I Shot Reagan” 03. “War Inside My Head” 04. “Subliminal” 05. “Ain’t Gonna Take It” 06. “Suicidal Failure” 07. “We Are Family” 08. “Possessed To Skate” 09. “I Saw Your Mommy ”

Scott "Wino" Weinrich of Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, and The Hidden Hand on guitar; Al Cisneros of Om and Sleep on bass; Dale Crover of Melvins and Altamont on drums; Scott Kelly of Neurosis on guitar. And all four of them on vocals. With these four living legends in the room, the term "highly anticipated" doesn't even come close.

Recorded in just three days, a sufficiently superhuman time-frame for a group of musicians who often pass for superhuman themselves in certain circles, Shrinebuilder delivers on the tacit promise of a riff-roaring Wino + Neurosis + Om + Melvins power-psych explosion, but it also delivers a sum that no one anticipated. "It's like a crazy experiment that actually worked," Crover enthuses. "I don't think we could have asked for something better." "It's one of those things that I would have never thought of or dreamed of," Kelly concludes. "It doesn't always sound like a collaboration between members of these four bands. There's something else that happens within that structure. It's about music as a religion, as a belief system, as a means of communication--and in the end I think the music speaks for itself. I've already listened to this project more than any other project I've ever worked on. I listen to it, and I listen to it loud."

2:48pm: A STORM OF LIGHT Post-Tour Update + Year-End NYC Show
A STORM OF LIGHT Post-Tour Update + Year-End NYC Show

Brooklyn, NY doom/post rock experimentalists A STORM OF LIGHT recently returned home from an 18-date European tour in support of their highly acclaimed Forgive Us Our Trespasses full-length, released earlier this year via Neurot Recordings. The trek kicked off at the renowned Damnation Festival in Leeds and concluded in Lisbon at Revolver Bar. The band was joined by Will Lindsay from Wolves In The Throne Room on second guitar and Geoff Summers of Batillus on drums.

Recapped ASOL guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Josh Graham (Neurosis visuals, Blood And Time, Battle Of Mice), "We just returned from our third European tour, and it was a great time for all of us! Playing everywhere from Lisbon to Moscow, we traveled by planes, boats, trains, and even a small stint in tiny rental cars. I kinda thought the major new experiences of touring were in the past, but this one proved to have some amazing turns. From drinking Russian vodka in Moscow, to broken elevators in Switzerland, to cops shutting down our show in Portugal, co-headlining with Minsk was a blast. There is talk that the tour may spark a joint release between both of our bands. We shall see."

A STORM OF LIGHT will play a special Brooklyn Vegan-sponsored year-end show in Brooklyn, NY with Coalesce. Tri-state area people! Don't miss it!

12/30/2009 Europa - Brooklyn, NY w/ Coalesce, Coliseum, My Skull Your Closet, Tournament

In related news, Forgive Us Our Trespasses is currently available as a double LP on colored vinyl. Check out the US and Euro versions here:

Equal parts funerary lament and celebration, Forgive Us Our Trespasses represents a series of brutal acts of beauty that surge and combine to announce a great sweeping aside, a reclamation of all that is lost before the tides calm, the land settles and the long, peaceful period of healing and rebirth may begin, a sense of quiet triumph descending upon the shattered, empty cities that must now simply lie and wait while the sun slowly gutters out and all is once again cold and dark and still.

"Absent are those dreamy, uber-melodic moments that Isis and Rosetta love, but the stark, oftentimes minimal nature of these songs allows for some truly striking moments, just check out the opening 'Alpha' and grueling 'Tempest.'" -- Blistering

"Quality epic metal is quite an effort to get right and this band have done a superb job with this release." -- Blogcritics

"Despite Graham's lyrical insight and guest appearances by Lydia Lunch and Jarboe, it's Forgive Us Our Trespasses' transcendentally rich doom that offers thrifty apocalypse enthusiasts way more value than, say, Roland Emmerich's 2012." -- Decibel

"The overall tone is oppressively heavy and where the shifts between ambient and crushing were predictable and unsatisfying on And We Wept the Black Ocean Within, here they’re blended together for a new brand of musical heft that sets A STORM OF LIGHT apart from generic B-list post-metallers and shows the true potential of the band." -- Stonerrock.com

WALKEN Secure Distro Deal And Death Angel Show

San Fran ragers WALKEN's new self-released/self-titled full-length is now available for exclusive distribution by Relapse Records!

WALKEN have also scored an upcoming opening slot for a hometown show with Skinlab and the almighty Death Angel this month, with more local and widespread tour plans in the works for the coming months. Check out the live footage from their release show a few weeks back:

The WALKEN crew have been expelling their metallic brew for a decade now. Comprised of a tight-knit unit featuring two members of Grayceon, WALKEN boast a high-octane punk-metal hybrid output all their own. Recorded at The Atomic Garden by Jack Shirley (Grayceon, Light This City), the new album is the first with the band's newly revamped four-piece lineup, bearing artwork by Mr. Ben Venom, their logo designed by famed artist Christophe Szpajdel (Wolves in the Throne Room, Emperor).

"Walken are skillful in their execution of songs, crafting and building each tune into something instantly memorable..." - HellrideMusic.com

"Walken raise their fists at the crossroads of hardcore punk and metal... the band's raw thrashing is heavily indebted to very early Bay Area metal bands such as Metallica, Exodus and Testament, but with unexpected bluesiness in the riff department." - Aquarius Records

THE RESURRECTION SORROW Announce Shows; Promos And Interviews Available Now

NYC doom/rock kingpins THE RESURRECTION SORROW are raking in great reviews of their recently self-released debut album Hour of the Wolf. In support of the release the band will do a short stint of live dates throughout the Northeast this winter with further tour plans to be announced soon.

12/12/2009 Club Sinix - Essex, MD
12/19/2009 Legends Rock Bar - Gales Ferry, CT

The New York City-based outfit features a cast of musicians who have collectively spent time in Murphy's Law, Tides Within, After Dark, Malstrom, Supervillain and more, bringing years of both studio and onstage expertise to the table. THE RESURRECTION SORROW's Hour of the Wolf was recorded by veteran NYC engineer Joe Hogan (Nebula, The Atomic Bitchwax) and features intense artwork by Seldon Hunt (Melvins, Sunn O))), Neurosis, etc.).

"In a word: Ballsy... This is testosterone driven doom rock that stands out like a high five across the table at a fancy restaurant. Think COC, BLS, Crowbar, some Borgo Pass-style sludge..." - TheObelisk.net

"Hour of the Wolf bolsters the future of Metal." - Steven Blush (author/filmmaker, American Hardcore)

"...if one were going for an easy description then Cathedral meets COC with a dash of Metallica would probably cover it, but delve a little deeper and there's more than just stylistic borrowings from the obvious reference points." 5/5 - RockMidgets.com

DARK FUNERAL's long-anticipated new full-length, Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus, will hit US shores on January 26, 2010 via Regain Records (the disc was released in Europe on November 18th). The nine-track masterpiece was recorded at Abyss Studios in Grangärde, Sweden with famed engineer and legendary producer Peter Tägtgren (Pain, Hypocrisy). Musically, it's the band's most technical and varied album to date. While remaining true to their roots, DARK FUNERAL have once again taken a great step forward in the evolution of their brand of fine Swedish black metal.

"[Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus] is a release that is able to distinguish itself from the hundreds of other black metal efforts that have come out this year. DARK FUNERAL is still one of the best acts the genre has to offer..." -- Cosmos Gaming

"If you love black metal then you’ll lose your mind over Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus and even if you only kind of enjoy the genre you’ll still dig the record... DARK FUNERAL once again kick ass when it comes to bringing the hatred home." -- Crave Online

"Track by track, you will find yourself rediscovering why DARK FUNERAL caught your attention in the first place. If you’re new to the metal scene and don’t have experience with the band before, this is a must-have album for you and will teach you what good black metal is about. The dark themes, tight musicianship and vocals all add up to another great release for 2009." -- Metal Psalter

Help BALFOR Play Metalcamp 2010

A message from Ukrainian black metallers BALFOR: "We'll be trying for MetalCamp 2010 and we need your help to get there by voting for us! There are lots of bands competing, so your vote is very important to us. Just go to: http://www.metalcamp.com/index.php?page=bandlist, scroll down until you get to BALFOR and click the VOTING button on the right. Then all you have to do is confirm the email they send you. Just a couple of minutes of your time could make a big difference for us, so thanks very much for voting!"

BALFOR recently signed to Pulverised Records. Self-described as "barbaric black metal" that explores themes from their country's warrior past, the band's recently completed debut full-length, Barbaric Blood, is slated for release in early 2010.

In related news, BALFOR recently recruited second guitar player Agnarr to their ranks. In an official press statement issued by the band: “Agnarr is a highly trained and skilled guitarist, with a real instinct for music, so he got the feel of what we wanted straight away. When we were recording material for our new album, we realized that the fuller sound we had developed was going to need an additional guitarist in order for us to be able to reproduce it live. It also takes some of the pressure off me on stage. Singing and playing at the same time is one thing, but when you want to give the audience a less static show, and communicate with them at the same time, it doesn’t always work too well, so a second guitarist is the perfect solution for us.”

Two new tracks -- “Behold My Hate” and “The Perfect Fire” -- from the upcoming debut album, are currently streaming on the band's official MySpace Page:

IMPERIAL VENGEANCE: New Photos + Update

From IMPERIAL VENGEANCE's Official MySpace Page:

"For those who didn't catch us at the Hellfire Festival at Birmingham's NEC last month- and of course, for those who did, be sure to have a look at Rob Stanley's fantastic photoset [http://robstanleyphotography.fotopic.net/c1788983_1.html] which captures very much the madness of the show. Thanks again one and all for those who turned up, waved flags and sang the songs. As the festive season starts to draw in upon us all, we are happy to report that the writing cycle for the new album is now very much in full swing at IV HQ and already the creative cogs are revolving at an alarming rate. Catch the updates as they happen at the UKMU community [http://www.unionblack.co.uk/forum/index.php] and wander around the forums of all the other smashing bands on there. Get involved! -- IMPERIAL VENGEANCE"

IMPERIAL VENGEANCE is a British extreme metal act originally formed as a studio-based collaborative between C. Edward Alexander (vocals/guitars/orchestration) and David Bryan (bass/lyrics) in 2007. A concept band of sorts, IMPERIAL VENGEANCE's themes are firmly rooted in the glory days of the British Empire exploring a wide range of subjects influenced by its colorful social and military history, theater, literature and mythology. Debut album At The Going Down Of The Sun was largely written by gas-light and fueled by absinthe and cigar smoke. The album represents an uncomfortable meander through British history, with the title track featuring a specially recorded passage from Harry Patch, who at the age of 110 was the last surviving tommy to have seen combat in the trenches of Passchendaele.

7:49pm: "Inner War" Cover By AOSOTH Posted
"Inner War" Cover By AOSOTH Posted

In a message from AOSOTH mainman MkM:
"So it is done. It's been one of my expectations for a decade now to re-record this one specific track that had a demo recording [sound] on the previous release of Antaeus
and as a symbol, since the rage within Antaeus is still there and will remain for now, we did get to expose a newer bleeding to this track and we are proud to share it around with those into Antaeus.

AOSOTH, my "actual" band, has been performing this track since the first live ritual and we will go on, since for all of us, it has a special meaning considering that Antaeus is not a live performing band and that track is one symbol of audio violence to us, we are paying an homage to what is "IT" for us.

Give us your impression, hate it, crave for the original one more with all its mistakes and the one take only opportunity with mixing screwing over anything I would have done myself.

At least now I am satisfied for something burnt down on CD live with Antaeus. It was perfect and so is the AOSOTH version nowadays live. The audio recording was not as I wanted

Anyway, enough with the bullshit. Those willing to give it a try can and to the rest, as usual: FUCK OFF." -- MkM
